Revelation River

All 114 surahs flow in the order they were revealed. The Makkah bank is on one side, the Madinah bank on the other, and the stream widens where the verses grow longer.

How to read the river

Time runs downward. The first surah revealed is at the top.
A bigger circle is a surah with more ayahs.
A wider stream means longer ayahs, counted in words. The early Makkan surahs run thin and fast.
The dashed band marks the Hijrah, where the sequence turns from Makkah to Madinah.
